Our Story
For more than 25 years, Chris built his career in the HVAC industry, working for larger companies and gaining experience in service, repair, installation, and solving comfort problems for homeowners. But for years, he had a bigger goal in mind—owning his own HVAC company and building something that could become a legacy for his family.
Taking that step didn’t happen overnight. Starting a business meant taking a risk and believing that years of experience could be turned into something of his own. With a little encouragement—and a confidence boost from Melissa—Chris decided it was finally time to pursue his contractor’s license and turn that longtime dream into a reality.
That dream became The Little Guy’s Heating & Air Conditioning.
From the beginning, we wanted to build a company where doing what’s right for the customer mattered more than simply making a sale. We believe homeowners deserve honest recommendations, clear communication, quality workmanship, and the information they need to make the best decision for their home and budget.

Chris Ortiz — Owner & Lead Service Technician
With more than 25 years of HVAC experience, Chris brings extensive hands-on knowledge to every service call and installation. He enjoys troubleshooting difficult problems, educating homeowners about their systems, and helping customers understand their options. His approach is simple: give people honest information, do quality work, and recommend the solution he would choose if it were his own home.
Melissa Ortiz — Co-Owner & Business Operations
Melissa manages the day-to-day operations behind The Little Guy’s Heating & Air Conditioning, including scheduling, customer communication, accounting, and keeping the business organized behind the scenes. She works alongside Chris to make sure customers receive clear communication and dependable service from their first interaction with the company through the completion of their project. Outside of running the business, Melissa is also a homeschooling mom to their two children, making family an important part of both life and the company they’ve built together.
Why We’re Called “The Little Guy’s”
People often ask where our name came from, and it’s one of our favorite stories to share.
Before starting The Little Guy’s Heating & Air Conditioning, Chris worked for another HVAC company. His work van had a small character on the side, and every time he came home, our three-year-old daughter would point to it and ask, “Who’s that?”
Chris would smile and tell her, “That’s the little worker guy.”
Around the same time, our daughter had become fascinated with apostrophes. When we began planning our own business, we knew we wanted the name to include both “The Little Guy” and an apostrophe because it reminded us of those conversations with her.
As our family grew, we wanted our son to be part of the business story too. That’s why the little character in our logo was designed to resemble him, making our company name and logo a reflection of both of our children.
Today, The Little Guy’s is more than just the name of our HVAC company. It’s a reminder of our family, how this business began, and the legacy we hope to build for our children.
